I took shots at varying speed the results are below. The faster speeds freeze the shot effectively whilst the very sow shutter speeds blurred both the rider and the background. 1/4000
1/2500
1/1600
1/1000
1/250
1/100
1/50
1/40
1/40
1/30
1/20
1/13
1/13
1/3
I think that the most effective shots are those at around 1/50 to 1/30 shutter speed as those convey a sense of motion nicely blurring the background and keeping enough detail in the cyclist.
